J.O.Y. Radio Personality
Mystah Jay
The Armory Asylum
“Do it out of love… or not at all.”
The Sound
A gumbo of every aspect of music that has crossed his ears on this earth. The Armory Asylum moves through all-era Hip-Hop, R&B, Soul, Jazz, and Pop like entering a different room every time the music changes.
The Story
Music was around Mystah Jay from birth—family records playing on weekends, songs on car rides, music in the park, and mixtapes recorded from Saturday night radio shows to play back at school the next week.
After a tragic event involving his uncle, he saw firsthand how radio could rally a community. That moment changed everything. He chased the chance to intern at the oldest Black-owned radio station in the city and kept building across the radio landscape from there.
DJing came from his uncle’s setup at his grandmother’s house. It became a creative outlet, a safe lane, and a way to stay focused while building a real relationship with the music he loved.
The Shift
One misconception is that he never finishes what he starts, can’t stay focused, or lets kindness toward others stop him from doing what is best for himself.
The pressure that shaped him came from always having to be the leader, the strength, and the rock. While others brag about when they “jumped off the porch,” he didn’t have a choice at 9.

The Mission
He wants listeners to feel the energy, mood, and dynamics that music can create from the very first beat drop. The show is meant to be an escape and a fun ride through his mind that day—while proving you do not have to conform. Be an individual.
